Just remember, you’re not denying yourself an opportunity, you’re leaving yourself open for something even better to come along.
ALL IN A DAY'S WORK
Finish each day’s work the same day, or rinse and repeat. Make sure you achieve this very important goal unless there is an unavoidable reason to do so.
This is the true secret of efficient time management. By finishing each day’s work the same day, you are making sure that you are never overburdened with too much work.
Look at this way. If you keep piling up pending work, not only will you never really get anything done, but you’ll stress yourself out and ultimately waste a lot of time. Now, that we have some time management basics out of the way, let’s check out some time tricks that will help you carve out a few extra hours per week.
UGGGH! GET UP AN HOUR EARLY
Naturally, there’s that voice in your head that screams in caps,
“But I get up early enough now! There’s no way I can get up any earlier!”
I know it’s tough. But after a week or so, you’ll get used to it. And you know what? You’ll be surprised at how getting up just an hour earlier can help accomplish more tasks that need to be done. If you haven’t taken a nap by now, simply do the math and you will realize that you just gained an extra five hours a week, or an extra twenty hours a month.
Yes, we all love our sleep. Don’t think you can handle it? Try it in stages. Get up fifteen minutes earlier each day, until you reach the hour goal.
So, if you usually get up at six and you want to get up at five, set your alarm for 5:45, then 5:30, and so on each day until you’re getting up at five. (Your body will get used to the earlier time in a week or two.)
Imagine what you could do with an extra hour in the morning each day? Imagine finishing goals before the rest of the world and your spouse and kids get up and start taking up your time?
You could exercise, practice a skill you’re trying to improve, check e-mail, or plan how you’re going to approach your boss about implementing the steps you’ve learned in this book! It really is up to you, and the sky’s pretty much the limit here.
